She attended Memorial University of Newfoundland Opera School from 1998 to 2002 and graduated from the St. Francis Xavier University Jazz Program in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music with Honours. Katie is now sitting on the board for Music on Main and Theatre Antigonish and is the owner and operator of Jamieson’s Music Studio in Antigonish teaching private voice, piano, and guitar lessons.Brent Collins
Brent Collins grew up in Labrador City, NL. He started piano lessons at a young age, learning the importance of practicing daily and good routines. His next introduction into music came from his grandfather, who taught him the saxophone, which he continued playing in his junior high and high school jazz and concert bands. These bands travelled around the world winning gold medals at various competitions. At the age of 13, his life changed when he took his first guitar lessons. From that point on he was hooked, practicing all the time, learning songs and soaking up everything he could. During high school, Brent played in several bands, winning the first battle of the bands held in his town. After high school, Brent decided to study music at St. FX, in hopes of becoming a better performer, and expanding his knowledge. Once he had decided his career would involve teaching, he took a job at Jamieson’s Music Studio where he has now worked for 2 years.
Brent believes that you learn as much as your students when you teach, and continues to learn every day. He is excited about passing knowledge on to a new generation of future musicians. The main thing Brent likes to pass on to students is that they are in full control of how good they get, by practicing and learning at home. The sky is the limit!
